Meet your broker

Renaee McSwan. Born and raised in Cairns.

More than ten years in finance and property, all of it in Far North Queensland. Renaee is a full member of the FBAA with access to a wide panel of lenders, from the big banks to the ones you have never heard of that sometimes have the sharpest deal.

She started Mac & Co Lending so locals could deal with a person, not a call centre. You get her mobile number, and she answers it.

More about Renaee

How a loan happens

Five steps. She drives, you decide.

1

Chat

A free conversation, at her office, your kitchen table or over the phone. What you earn, what you owe, what you want to do. No forms yet, no obligation.

2

Options

Renaee compares loans across her lender panel and comes back with a shortlist that fits. Each option explained in plain English, including what it costs over time.

3

Application

She prepares and lodges the application, chases the lender, and handles the back and forth. You get updates without having to ask for them.

4

Settlement

Approval, signing, settlement day. Renaee coordinates with your solicitor and the lender so the moving parts land on time.

5

The annual review

This is the bit most brokers skip. In her words: "I am not the set and forget type. Once a year I check your loan still stacks up. If your lender has drifted, we fix it."

Common questions

The things people ask first.

For most home loans, nothing. The lender pays the broker a commission after your loan settles, and Renaee discloses exactly what that is before you sign anything. If a fee ever applies to your situation, you will know up front, in writing.

Your bank can only offer you its own products. A broker compares loans from a wide panel of lenders and does the negotiating for you. Your bank also will not tell you when a competitor has a sharper rate. A broker will, because finding it is the whole job.

It varies by lender and how complete your paperwork is. Some lenders turn applications around in days, others take weeks. Renaee tells you the realistic timeframes for each lender on your shortlist before you pick one, and keeps the application moving so it does not stall in a queue.

No. Plenty of loans settle with less. A smaller deposit usually means paying lenders mortgage insurance, and some buyers qualify for government schemes that reduce or remove that cost. Whether that trade off makes sense for you is exactly the kind of thing a free chat sorts out.
